How to stop scanning folders

I have set all the switches under settings not to do an autoscan but it still does a scan every six hours. Whilst it is scanning the service is unusable. My Echo Shows just hang. Has anyone found a solution to this? My playlists hardly change so I do not need such a regular scan.
