My Media for Alexa being discontinued?

Post by ramon2000 »

I only wanted to know if My Media for Alexa is being discontinued.

Since version 1.3.122.0, February 2nd 2019, 6 months ago, there have been no updates and/or announcements and/or movement in this forum.

I'd love to know this also, since my blind partner relies heavily on the MyMedia plugin...

Lack of updates doesn't necessarily imply lack of future. If there is nothing new to add or no bug to fix then no update is needed. What the developers are really in need of is for Amazon to enable options such as multi-room and stereo pair functions for third-party developers. The developers can only go as far as Amazon allows... :(

I've been thinking the same. I've actually moved over to Plex which has matured a great deal since I first got my Alexa - may be worth a look?

We are still here and supporting My Media - including testing multiroom audio support.

We are also working on some great new features so stay tuned; a smaller maintenance release will be out soon.

Does PLEX play music out through the Amazon device though? or only through plex-compatible players?

...and that is EXCELLENT news about development continuing!!

Any news about the "maintenance release" you talked about 2 months ago?

It's gone very quiet again....
I'm curious as to how MyMedia will cope with the removal of iTunes in MacOS Catalina. Presumably setting up your iTunes library as a watch folder won't be supported?

In case peeps are searching for it, we updated My Media for Alexa a month or so back to support the Apple Music app in Catalina replacing iTunes.

Hate to tell you this, but that update doesn't work. At least not for me.

Mac version. On Catalina (10.15.5).
Music library DB in ~/Music as advised by Apple
Music files on an external drive because there are lots of them and configured as such in the Music app.
iTunes music page says status is Error. Logs from the line in the watch folders say
Watch Folder (iTunes Library XML) Scan Results
==============================================
Path: /Users/andy/.MyMediaForAlexa/MyMediaiTunesMusicLibrary.xml
Scan start time: 24/06/2020 11:41:52

Aborted: '', hexadecimal value 0x19, is an invalid character. Line 2327, position 54
The file it mentions starts with <U+FEFF> which I'm not sure is a valid opening for an XML file, but it's your code that created it.

Watch folders will see the music files ok, but not interact with the Music app DB for playlists.

If you can point me at the correct topic, I'll take this over there. Can't find it myself because search keeps rejecting all the words I enter as too common.

Can you zip and email us your MyMediaForAlexa.log file as well as the generated iTunes XML file please? Then we can take a look. TIA

Yup just replied, apologies for delay.

The issue is due to illegal characters in one of the albums:

Now That^Y's What I Call Music 94

My Media shouldn't be breaking on this, so we'll raise a bug to fix it, however, in the meantime fixing the Album metadata for this album should resolve the issue.
