When you install iHomeServer, you are prompted to enter account details for a local or domain account under which the iHomeServer Windows Service (and thus iTunes) will run.

If you ever change your password, or if you link your account to a Microsoft account when you upgrade to Windows 10, the iHomeServer Service will no longer start as the account details will be invalid. When you access the iHomeServer Console you will repeatedly see the message 'The iHomeServer Management Console cannot communicate with the iHomeServer Service'.

To check this is the case, follow these steps:

1. Log into the Desktop of your Windows 10 machine running iHomeServer
2. Press the Start icon and type ‘services’
3. Click ‘View local services’
4. Find the service called ‘bizmodeller iHomeServer (for iTunes)’
5. The service is unlikely to be started – if it says ‘Running’ then let us know as this may mean the suggested issue is not the actual issue.
6. Right-click the service and select ‘Start’
7. You should receive an error saying "The service did not start due to a logon failure".

To resolve the issue by updating the account password associated with the iHomeServer Windows service, follow these steps:

1. Log into the Desktop of your Windows 10 machine running iHomeServer
2. Press the Start icon and type ‘services’
3. Click ‘View local services’
4. Find the service called ‘bizmodeller iHomeServer (for iTunes)’
5. Right-click the 'bizmodeller iHomeServer (for iTunes)' Windows service and select ‘Properties’
6. Click the ‘Log On’ tab.
7. Enter your Microsoft account password in the Password and Confirm Password fields.
8. Click ‘OK’
9. Right-click the service and click ‘Start’
10. The Service should now start successfully.
