Hello all,

i try to install the ihomeserver on whs2011. I created 2 new users (with Administration rights) on the whs2011 to install for my wife and me each with a separate apple id itunes and quickviewer on my whs2011 to make the streaming for both off us possible. After that i installed itunes and quickviewer on the whs2011 and configured the installations with the separate apple ids. After that i installed the addin ihomeserver also successfully and so far so good. Now i looked into the whs2011 dashboard to install the ihomerserver service. Now i have to enter username and password so i entered following username (SERVER/username);
BRUTUS/Sven
and also the correct password. After pressing enter the following error message appears:
The username or password you entered is not correct. This should be your normal user Window's account details. Would you like to try again?

So i have the question if i do anything wrong or it is not possible to enter another username than Administrator and so it is also not possible to support 2 different apple ids on one server? Or is there another possibility to user 2 different apple ids on one server to make streaming for each one possible?

Thank you very much,

Best regards,
Sven

Hi Sven,

Re the invalid username/password message. You need to enter your username as:
BRUTUS\Sven
with a backslash instead of a forward slash - I think this will be the issue here.

With regards to multiple Apple IDs on one computer; unfortunately iTunes does not allow multiple instances of iTunes to run on a single computer. We have tried to find ways around this limitation, however, the limitation is hard coded into the iTunes product. We will continue to look into getting around this.

In the meantime, another way of tackling the problem is if you are running iTunes on a laptop or another computer with your wife's account whilst you run the iTunes instance on the WHS under your account. If you install iHomeServer on both the laptop and your WHS server then you can create a library synchronisation relationship between the two which will pull any new media your wife has purchased and synchronise that to the WHS instance. Then you'll be able to stream both your wife's and your own content from any client configured to use your Apple ID. Note this will only work for non-DRM content.

hi,

thank you for that reply another idee from my side is to install on my whs2011 a virtual machine with whs2011, do you know if this will work to get two different itunes installation running one on the real one and the other one on the virutal server? If yes i think i try to handle that on this why until there is a solution where the ihomeserver can handle 2 different apple ids.

Best regards,
sven

yep this should certainly work - and if you are just using iTunes and iHomeServer then you can install a 'lighter' weight operating system like Windows XP (SP2) to run your iTunes instance within a virtual machine (although WHS should work fine too)

This is exactly how we do it in our test lab where we have many instances of iTunes running under different virtual machines
